| What
is Web Hosting?
Web
Hosting is a program that allows visitors from
anywhere around the world instant access to
your web site through the Internet. That's because
on the Internet, every computer is a host computer.
Some hosts serve up content or applications
to other host computers, and they are called
servers.Your computer, on the other hand, consumes
and utilizes the content and information served
by a server provided by DRC's managed server
service. Hence, your computer is called a client
computer that is hosted by DRC. In other words,
DRC's Web Hosting service provides client computers
like yours a user-friendly interface that runs
on your computer and accesses resources on the
Internet. Whenever something from the Internet,
it seeks out DRC's server program. In return,
DRC sends back a suitable reply to your computer,
allowing your visitors to send feedback about
your website.
Furthermore,
with DRC's web hosting service, your web site
will have its own space and domain name (www.yourcompany.com).
No need to worry about high costs. All our virtually
hosted customers receiveunlimited FTP transfers.
In addition, DRC does not provide local dial-up
acces. This means, our servers are not congested
with local inbound dial-up traffic, unlike those
of local ISPs. Therefore, our web hosting service
makes us work better than local ISP. No need
to relocate your web site or change your e-mail
address whenever you change providers. Your
website is managed by an Internet Presence Provider
such as DRC.
As a DRC customer, you enjoy the same privileges
and capabilities as a major corporation. No
headaches and high costs for setting up and
supporting your own routers or web and e-mail
servers. Our tools and services make DRC the
quickest, easiest way to create a professional
Web site and e-mail system using your own personalized
domain name (http://www.yourcompany.com).
What
is virtual hosting?
Virtual
hosting lets you or your company to lease part
of a server to store your website's data. No
need to pay for an entire machine with more
space than you need. With DRC's Virtual Web
Hosting, your web site has a home on on our
web server. We can also help you register your
own domain name, providing your web site with
a unique address on the World Wide Web. E-mail
messages can be addressed to your domain (www.yourdomain.com)
name without your having to announce a new e-mail
address if you change Internet service providers.
At
a fraction of the cost, a Virtual Web Hosting
system allows you to establish Internet presence
with high-speed connectivity. However, without
a virtual web hosting system, you will be required
to purchase high-speed connectivity, expensive
equipment, and even hire a support staff. In
other words, the Virtual WebSite system gives
you services you want without the worries and
costs of maintaining an Internet connection.
And your customers won't be able to tell the
difference!
To
illustrate, most companies that have high-speed
connections do not use the full potential bandwidth
of their Internet connection continuously. However,
to avoid customer delays, they will purchase
the fastest Internet connection they can afford,
and more often than not, inferior in the Internet
connection is usually a 56Kbit/sec on fractional
T1 frame-relay (time-shared) connection.
During
peak usage hours to these sites, customers may
notice significant network delays because of
slower connections. However, customers accessing
information of larger companies with faster
connections (such as a full, dedicated T1 or
better) will not experience these delays.
How
does the Virtual Web Hosting system work?
The
Virtual Web Hosting system provides you multiple
virtual accounts served by a single server,
configured to facilitate customized solutions.
A
unique domain name and static IP (Internet Protocol)
address is provided in each virtual server.
Any incoming request is determined and serviced
by the Virtual Web Hosting system based on the
static IP address, invoking a unique server
based on the designation address and port number
of an IP request. This allows the virtual web
site user to have his own customer configuration
or data files. The virtual servers logs events
to the user's own log directory, allowing the
transmission of customer inquiries and print
out reports.
At
what speed is my server connected to the Internet?
In
our local (Philippine) servers, DRC Hosting
has a multiple T-1 B/B and a fractional T-3
connection. In our US server, we have a multiple
Fast T-3 Internet connection. While a T-1 leased-line
connection is capable of carrying data at 1,544,000
bits-per-second, at maximum theoretical capacity,
a T-1 line could move a megabyte in less than
10 seconds. However, that isn't fast enough
for full-screen, full-motion video. You will
therefore need at least 10,000,000 bits-per-second.
T-1 is the fastest speed commonly used to connect
networks to the Internet. On the other hand,
a T-3 leased-line connection capable of carrying
data at 44,736,000 bits-per-second. This is
more than enough to do full-screen, full-motion
video.
